GLIMMER TO ONCE AGAIN PLAY HOST TO ANTHONY MINGHELLA AWARD FOR BEST INTERNATIONAL & UK SHORT, SPONSORED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF HULL.
GLIMMER The 8th Hull International Short Film Festival, which runs from 19th-25th April 2010, will once again give filmmakers the opportunity to walk away with the Anthony Minghella Award for Best International and Best UK Short. Sponsored by the University of Hull, the awards come with a cash prize of £1000 and £500 respectively and give those working in all genres the chance to vie for the prestigious honour. Last year’s winners included The Solitary Life of Cranes (Dir. Eva Weber, UK, 2008) a lyrical and moving documentary, and Dobro Jutro [Good Morning] (Dir. Marina Radmilac, Serbia, 2008), a remarkable drama about a girl waking up in a strange flat. Shot in one take, the film received its UK premiere at the 7th edition of GLIMMER.
Anthony Minghella, who sadly passed away in 2008, remains one of the UK’s most celebrated film directors, winning an Academy Award for The English Patient. Aside from his achievements in film, Minghella had a storied career in the theatre, TV and radio displaying the immense skill and talent that was nurtured during his time studying and teaching at the University of Hull.

“It’s once again an honour to hold the Anthony Minghella Awards for Best International and UK Shorts. We had a truly exceptional selection of films in last year’s competition and look forward to the same during the 8th edition of GLIMMER. Anthony Minghella was passionate about supporting exciting new talent, and we know that the films we show will be representative of some of the boldest and bravest filmmaking from across the world. I’d like to thank the University Of Hull for their invaluable support and helping to promote how GLIMMER is an improatnt event in the city and across the country.”
